ARRL Headquarters

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the largest amateur radio organization in the US with 160,000+ members, established station W1AW here in 1938 and moved administrative headquarters in 1963. Founded by Hiram Percy Maxim in 1914, W1AW was the first memorial call sign assigned by the FCC, honoring Maxim's original 1AW. Maxim also invented the firearm silencer and automobile mufflers.
