About

Founded in 1722, the Church of Christ, Congregational is the cornerstone of Newington's religious history. The first meetinghouse was built in 1716, before the church was formally organized. Reverend Elisha Williams served as the first pastor before becoming Rector of Yale University. Reverend Joab Brace later served for 56 years and notably taught young Frederick Law Olmsted, who became America's greatest landscape architect.
